Our 2016 Winner, Bella Huerta, in the studio as a recording artist, with her recently completed session at The Garage. The session was part of the prize package she received as 2016 winner of Minnesota Sings Vocal competition. Thanks to Executive Director Jack Kolb-Williams for making this possible! A trio of pro musicians Tom Baskerville on piano, Dave Gillespie, upright bass and and John Hanson on drums, provided their talents and our great recording engineer, Robert Frost lll, put all the pieces together. Her family accompanied her and provided moral support through the long process. There’s so much behind the scenes and it takes a long time to get everything just right. Now, here’s is a look behind the scenes of a few of the photos taken and, of course, the end results- first up, her rendition of the classic “My Funny Valentine.”

A closer look at the great audio -technica mics that were used on the Drum Kit played by John Hanson. Properly placed by the sound engineer, this pair gave great clarity to every brush stroke! Click on the Link Below to hear the song that Bella chose in the Grand Finalé for Minnesota Sings. She performed an Aria in her preliminary round but listened to comments made by the judges , looking for the warmth of her special voice to be featured. She took a big chance and it really paid off! “I Have Nothing ” turned out to be the choice that would mean Everything!
This was a great experience to see just how much goes into creating the right sound for each artist. From the Sponsors to the Producer, artist and engineers, musicians and the very best gear , every detail combined to make the final results the best they could be. We know Bella enjoyed her session and hope her voice takes her amazing places in her future. Thanks for being a great representative for Minnesota Sings 2016. We hope she will cheer on our 2017 winner… who will it be?
